Settle Ceramics: Turning everyday objects into art for your home

We are always in search of local Austin artisans that can add something special to your home environment whether it be a touch of comfort or a bespoke element.  This week we are excited to spotlight a local artist that does both!  Bonus! 

We recently visited with Samantha Heligman of Settle Ceramics at her studio on Springdale Road.  Even if you don’t know Samantha directly, chances are that you’ve seen or eaten on her dinner ware at popular dining hot spots like Barley and Swine, Elizabeth Street Café, or Clark’s Oyster Bar.     

These are not your traditional ceramics.  Samantha’s pieces have heft.  Unique forms.  Beauty.  And function.  Samantha’s hand-thrown ceramic pieces elevate the everyday dining experience.

Samantha grew up in a family that valued mealtimes together.  That, along with her love of cooking and eating high-quality meals, drew Samantha to create everyday heirlooms for the modern kitchen.  You’ll find her studio filled with useful and beautiful products like olive oil bottles, salt dishes, wine carafes, baking dishes, bowls, plates, and mugs in modern and organic shapes highlighted with painterly strokes and splashes of natural color.   

Because each piece is born out of a lump of clay that Samantha shapes by hand on a potter’s wheel, no two pieces are exactly alike.  And while the stoneware pieces are unique in form, they are durable and made to be used.  They are safe to use in the dishwasher, microwave, and even the oven.
